Do you really think we’re alone ?

Do any of you realise just how insignificant we are in the Universe ?

So let’s put things in perspective a little, we think the world is a huge place, it takes ages to travel anywhere really, it can sometimes take hours just to get to work in the city where we live.

Most of us have either flown or driven to another country and again we know the time and distance involved.

Now try to imagine our solar system

So our solar system has a Sun at the heart of it giving life on earth.

The Sun as we know is a star, our solar system is part of the Galaxy we live in known as The Milky Way.

In the Milky Way, there are around 100 BILLION stars, yes thats correct, 100 BILLION stars in our galaxy called The Milky Way and The Sun is just one of these 100 BILLION stars.

In the Solar System there are planets of course of which The Earth is one of them and it is also one of the smaller planets, then planets have moons orbiting around them in their gravitational field of which we have a single moon but planets such as Jupiter have six moons and Jupiter itself is 53 times bigger than the Earth.

Feeling small and insignificant yet, think of how insignificant an an Ant is or other life forms which are even smaller.

OK now the biggie, so we live in a galaxy with around 100 Billion stars in it called The Milky Way – well The Milky Way Galaxy is only one of around 200 trillion galaxies in the universe and let us assume our galaxy is an average galaxy and we are nowhere near even exploring our own galaxy so should we really believe that we are alone in this universe.

Of course being a rational form of life called Humans we have to put things in perspective and to the law of averages and every time you would do this, realistically the answer will always come back that there is probably zero chance of us being alone or to put it into mathematics, if we multiply 200 trillion by 100 billion, it is of course a huge number but it is this number of a chance that we are alone – I THINK NOT ?

I think it is an absolute certainty that there are huge numbers of alternative life forms and other beings in the universe.

The other interesting thing is time and its effect on space and again one which i think the majority of people will have trouble simply grasping.

Imagine travelling 5000 Light Years to Jupiter if it was habitable and setting up a home there but first bear in mind that the Jupiter you see from Earth is being viewed in the past, so when you are looking at Jupiter from Earth, you are looking at the planet as it was 5000 years ago.

Wow right ?

Right now imagine you leave Earth and arrive on Jupiter and from Jupiter, you look back towards Earth and view life here through a super telescope.

What you would be viewing is Earth 5000 years ago – crazy right – maybe but it’s true and this is part of Einsteins Theory of Space, Time and Relativity.

Is that idea not impossible for our minds to grasp ?

Whatever your opinion, nothing can escape the fact that it is nevertheless true.
